The American Bulldog

American Bulldogs are excellent companions–arguably some of the very best around, given their nature and utility.

The breed is large. They are sturdy and muscular with heavy bone structure, a smooth coat and a short face. Prized for their affectionate and gentle disposition, they are exceptionally loving and protective of their family, and are especially good with children.

AB’s active and alert, brave and strong-willed, and will do best with good training from a young age. They have strong protective instincts and are well-known for acts of heroism towards their owners.

Child friendly

AB's are gentle towards children. This trait is deeply entrenched in the heritage of the breed as a multipurpose hardworking, family dog.

Tolerate some alone time

While the American Bulldog is generally at its happiest when his people are around, working people can rest assured that he can be left for short periods of time given sufficient exercise and training.

Excellent watchdog

American Bulldogs are generally alert of their surroundings and wary of outside activity that is out of the norm. They are known to alert their owners when needed, and are a force to be reckoned with for someone intent on doing harm to his owners or their property.

Excercise required

This is a performance dog from nose to tail, and he requires daily exercise in order to stay happy and healthy. This doesn't preclude apartment dwellers from ownership, but they should take note that this breed pairs best with active people in any setting.
